Rava idli south Indian recipe

Rava idli is a south Indian recipe but is liked by all states of India.Mostly,people would love lo make this recipe during breakfast.Rava or suji means semolina, the main ingredient which is used in this recipe.I first time ate idli in my friend's house.I enjoyed it very much.Then I asked her about this recipe.She told me that there are many ways by which you could enjoy this recipe, as you can take coconut chutney or tomato chutney with it.I tried this recipe in my kitchen and first time I got 90% results,again I tried then I realized that my idli recipe was tastier than my friend's idli recipe, as I added many ways to enhance the taste of idli.I will tell you in my another post about the methods by which you can enhance the taste of idli.
Now I am sharing simple idli recipe.Actually it is steamed recipe so you need idli stand or mould to make this yummy recipe.People who are very health conscious would enjoy this a lot.To make this recipe you need to make idli batter first.

Here is the list of ingredients which are used to make nutritious south Indian recipe.


  • Rava,suji or semolina = 250 gm.
  • Curd= 150 gm.
  • Mustard seeds =1/4 tsp.
  • Cashew nuts(roughly chopped)= 10 ,15.
  • Oil= 1 tbsp.
  • Curry leaves =6,7.
  • water =1 1/2 cup.
  • gram dal or chana dal= 1 tbsp.
  • Ginger =1/2 tsp(chopped).
  • Green chilly(chopped) =1/2 tsp.
  • Baking powder or fruit salt = 1 tsp.
  • salt to taste=(1/4 tsp) 

Method




Step1

Take a pan.Add oil.Let it heat up for few seconds.Add cumin seeds,mustard seeds along with curry leaves.stir it well.
Step2
Add cashew nuts,chana dal,green chilies,chopped ginger and salt.Keep on stirring for 5-6 minutes.
Step3
Now add semolina,suji or rava.Roast the semolina with other ingredients for few minutes.
Step4
Let the mixture cool down.After this put the mixture into a bowl.
Step5
Pour curd into this bowl and cover the bowl with lid for at least half an hour.Let the mixture ferment for at least half an hour.
Step6
In the meantime you should grease the idli stand with oil or ghee.

Check the mixture after half an hour.Add water because semolina absorbed all water from the mixture.After adding water you need to check the consistency of idli batter.It should neither too thick nor too thin.
Step8
Add baking powder or fruit salt(ENO) to make the spongy idli.Mix it well.
Step9
Pour the batter into the idli stand.
Step10
Now put pressure cooker or steamer on gas and add 1 glass of water.Let the water boil.Keep stand at the bottom of the pressure cooker.Put idli stand in it.Steam for 10-12 minutes for medium flame.

After 10-12 minutes take out idlies from idli stand.Serve these yummy idlies with coconut chutney.
